The newly formed Ohio Vision Professionals Board came into existence on January 21, 2018 House Bill 49 of the 132nd General Assembly consolidate the State Board of Optometry and the Optical Dispensers Board into the Vision Professionals Board. The Board oversees activities related to licensing of nearly 6,500 optometrists, opticians, and ocularists. The Board is compromised of seven members appointed by the Governor: four optometrists, two opticians, and one public member.

The mission of the Vision Professionals Board is to protect and serve the public of Ohio by effectively and efficiently regulating the practices of Optometry, Opticianry, and Ocularists in Ohio. We strive to be a national leader for the establishment of professional practice standards and licensure of Optometrists, Opticians, and Ocularists.

Your Opticians Association of Ohio regularly attends these board meetings representing opticians and apprentices across the state. These meetings are open to the public, and all are invited and encouraged to attend.
