Saturday, November 7, 2020 National Contact Lens (NCLE) Exam


This NCLE Review Course will review review and prepare the candidate for the NCLE Basic examination. Topics will include:

  • Domain I - Oculare Anatomy, Physiology and Pathology of the eye as it pertains to contact lens wear.
  • Domain II - refractive errors regarding ametropias and optical conditions related to contact lenses.
  • Domain III – Selecting and using the appropriate instruments and tests for evaluation and modification procedures.
  • Domain IV -  Pre fitting techniques will be discussed to evaluate the relationship between the corneal readings and the refractive error to identify the possible need for specialty materials and designs.
  • Domain V and VI – Will discuss the diagnostic fitting and dispensing of both soft and rigid lenses, including aftercare, wearing schedules and patient hygiene.  This Domain will also include the use of instruments, tests and evaluation procedures.
  • Domain VII  – Will discuss follow-up and problem solving protocol as it relates to normal and abnormal symptoms.
  • Domain VIII – Will discuss the legal aspects of contact lenses and tolerance standards utilized in contact lens fitting.

Sunday, November 8, 2020 American Board Opticianry (ABO) Exam

This ABO Review Course will prepare and review the candidates for the ABO Basic Examination. Topics will include:

  • Domain I - Ophthalmic Optics; topics will include terminology, prescriptions, lens characteristics, lens powers, and formulas, multifocals, lens materials and prism.
  • Domain II - Ocular anatomy, physiology and pathology of the eye. Topics will include, structure of the eye and function, and refractive errors.
  • Domain III - -Ophthalmic Products; topics will include - frames, lenses, applying product knowledge, recognizing specific product applicability with regard to patient's needs and wants, verifying frame and lens parameters and other physical characteristics.
  • Domain IV - Instruments; topics to be covered include - visual power measuring devices, select ophthalmic tools, instruments, and equipment, use and maintain ophthalmic tools, instruments and equipment.
  • Domain V -Dispensing Procedures; topics include - visual needs for lifestyle and occupational activities; fitting, adjusting, measuring, and verification, and patient interaction.
  • Domain VI - Laws, Regulations and Standards.
